Scheduling Appointments:
When we have an appointment together, you are reserving that time and space with me. If you know you there is a time you cannot attend your session, I ask that you let me know 2 weeks in advance so that I can have a chance to fill that time. If an appointment time is cancelled or changed within 72 hrs of the appointment time, you will be charged. If you request extended or repeated absences, a specific arrangement will need to be made in advance.
Phone Calls and Texts: I try to respond to my messages in a timely manner; ideally, I try to return calls within 24 hours. This may not be feasible at all times. If there is an immediate or urgent concern for yourself or others, please call 911 or the Sutter Center for Psychiatry at (916) 386–3000.
Payment: Full payment or co-payments are due at the time of the initial evaluation and at the beginning of each session. I accept cash or check. As a courtesy for patients in ongoing treatment, I can provide a bill on a monthly basis. I do not carry balances for longer than that time, except on a case-by-case basis and per prior arrangement.
Refills: To ensure that you do not run out of medications, please check your medication supply regularly and prior to appointments so new prescriptions can be supplied at that time.
Controlled substances and other medications: Some medications carry a risk of addiction, and I am very sparing in their use. If I do prescribe these medications, it tends to be at a low dose and for a limited amount of time. I do not prescribe pain medications or medical marijuana, nor do I prescribe medications for conditions that are outside my area of expertise.
Paperwork: I prioritize other aspects of patient care over paperwork such as insurance forms, disability forms and letter completion. If you feel a need for paperwork to be filled out quickly, you may use some of your appointment with me to complete the requested paperwork. If a significant amount of paperwork needs to be completed, I may charge a pro-rated fee for my time.
Records Release: Therapy is an inherently vulnerable experience, and I take our confidentiality seriously. As such, I do not release therapy notes except on direct order from a Judge. However, I will gladly discuss my findings with my patients or with colleagues if provided with a signed release of information from my patient. Upon request, I can also provide a brief, focused treatment summary that will include adequate information for psychiatric evaluations.
Session Length: Sessions times are 45 - 50 minutes.
